Arcan Nalca is currently an Associate Professor in Smith School of Business at Queen's University, Kingston.
He holds a Ph.D. degree in Operations Management area from the Desautels Faculty of Management in McGill University. He completed his study under the supervision of Prof. Tamer Boyaci and Prof. Saibal Ray. In his doctoral research Arcan investigated how choices made by operations managers interact with and affect marketing, especially, pricing decisions. He studied a specific retail pricing strategy - price-matching guarantees - a topic novel to the operations management literature. He also holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in Industrial Engineering, and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.
His primary research interest lies in the field of supply chain management, especially in the context of modeling and analyzing practically motivated research problems at the interface of operations and marketing. Issues related to competition, coordination, and contracting in the presence of demand uncertainty as well as in the context of distribution channels constitute some of his research thrusts in this area.
Arcan has extensive teaching experience as an instructor in the undergraduate (Commerce), graduate (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) and professional (MBA, Executive) programs.
Arcan Nalca is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), The Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society (M&SOM), Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), Decision Science Institute (DSI), and Groupe d'Etudes et de Recherches en Analyse des Decisions (GERAD).
